Your Perfect Make-Up at 60 - The Essentials

Perfect make-up used to be easy and fun didn't it? Are there just too many complications now? Uneven skin texture and tone, crepe-y lids, darkness below your eyes. If you are dissatisfied with your make-up read on...

The cosmetic industry is spending millions on developing make-up products designed exclusively for women of 50 and 60+. They have thought of everything. There are lighter than air foundations with more coverage, finely milled, solid eye shadows that won't form creases, creamier lipsticks containing skin care and plumping agents.

\"make Up\"

The cosmetic companies have done their homework but have we?

Your Perfect Make-Up at 60 - The Essentials

We all want to look our best every day and especially on occasions when the limelight is on us. Birthdays, anniversaries, reunions and big nights out. We need to learn some basic make-up techniques to achieve a natural looking daytime make-up that minimises imperfections and a couple of magic spells to crank up the glam factor for evenings. At 20 or 30 we didn't need these techniques for a perfect make-up, we just whisked a pretty shadow across a soft, even eye lid and traced a lipstick over moist lips. Want to know how to do it today?

First we need to put your make-up in the best light.

  • My most essential piece of equipment is a 10x magnifying mirror with suction pads that I stick on the window. Good eyesight or not, the day light allows you to see every eyelash and brow hair and blend colours to perfection. No more guess work.

Next choose the best anti aging cosmetic products.

  • A Primer to improve skin texture and even out tiny wrinkles and smooth drier areas.
  • Anti aging foundation in a mousse or liquid chosen to best suit your skin and coverage needs.
  • Concealer comes in various shades and we can learn to combine them to totally erase any darkness.
  • Solid eye shadows that are easy to apply without getting colour under the eyes. These in a variety of the softest shades with a dark chocolate or aubergine to accentuate the eyes at night.
  • Lengthening and thickening mascara with no filaments to darken the under eye later in the day.
  • Brow powder or pencil, sharp and in a shade that melts into your eyebrow colour.
  • Anti aging lipstick in soft complimentary colours avoiding shades that make your teeth look yellow.
  • Blusher to add freshness and contour. Probably the make-up category surrounded by the most confusion.

The bottom line is we need to learn how to achieve the perfect make-up using the right tools to apply these fantastic make-up products. But where? You can always ask the beautifully made-up girl at the beauty counter, but let's face it, who wants to do that? There are some excellent books and there are online beauty courses and beauty guides. The time invested will increase your confidence and show you how to work the magic of make-up. It is possible to cover and minimise imperfections, highlight your best features and achieve a soft natural looking make-up at the same time.

Put your make-up on in the best light. Learn how to use the right tools and choose the best products. Invest a little time and show the world a confident, younger looking you!

Why Does Dementia Mom Make Up Stories?

You look after your Mom. She has dementia. She's not too hard to look after yet and your family are supportive. Overall, things are going fairly smoothly. If you were truthful though, you'd say the thing that she does that really makes you crazy is -- she tells lies. Yes, that woman who'd punish you for lying as a child, she lies all the time. When Doug, your brother far away in South Dakota, phones to talk to her, you hear your Mom, lying to him.

"Oh yes, honey, I'm fine. Yes, I went out to lunch today with my friends. Uh-huh, yes, yesterday I went shopping. Oh no, honey, I'm doing fine."

\"make Up\"

Just like Wonder Woman, you want to cross the kitchen in a single bound and bop your mother on the head and hiss, "Stop that lying right now! Go to your room!"

Why Does Dementia Mom Make Up Stories?

But you mustn't. No, what you must do is to bring that fine understanding of yours to your mother's dementia. Dementia means having very seriously fractured short term memory, plus inability to think in rational step-by-step process, plus difficulty in following logic and pattern. This is due to the many roadblocks in the brain created by the plaques and tangles of physical deterioration.

These difficulties mean feeling very unsafe and insecure. Ask yourself, how would it be to genuinely have no idea what you did yesterday? To not know where you'd been, what you'd been doing. Think about how many suspense movies are made from that very theme -- usually the person who wakes up in a hotel room in an unknown town with no memory even of who he is. Not remembering on a large scale is very frightening. To feel secure under those circumstances is almost impossible.

Moreover, to be honest, it asks we caregivers to be accepting and not accusing, forgiving and not angry. When people afraid to admit they don't know anything about yesterday, they are most likely to draw upon their own life pattern. The further back memory goes, the more they'll be able to draw upon. From those old habits, they'll make yesterday. Don't think they're lying. Think they're seeking peace instead of constant fear.

If they invent wildly, we could accept that as a rich fantasy life. In the same way that children create from their imagination things that comfort them -- imaginary friends, talking toads. Think of your mother as having imaginary friends who comfort her in the losses and insecurities of her life now she's ill. Usually when we caregivers get mad at someone with dementia, it's because we've put ourselves on the opposite side from them. That happens for all kinds of reasons -- lack of sleep, dislike of Mama, fear of dementia.

If we try to stand by the person we care for, actually we both feel better. Remember, you may be struggling with your pity, grief and fear AND a family member's dementia. That doesn't mean that family member is living a sorrowful or painful life. In fact, an average day with dementia can be fun. Especially if you were fun. Deal with your issues, so you can help them with their issues. That's what we caregivers do.

What Metals and Other Materials Make Up Cars?

Car materials these days are chosen to reduce weight, save costs and make cars more environmentally friendly. Steel as a car material today is found only in their frames, and as my Saturn dealer advised me, in "the body parts that face the sky", such as the car's hood, trunk lid and the roof. The balance of the car's body is a composite of fiberglass and polycarbon material, which is lightweight and shock-absorbent, too.

Solid steel and cast iron are no longer the car materials preferred for car engines any more. These metals are too valuable and too heavy to use in the engine, which is subject to corrosion, rust and metal friction at high temperatures. Aluminum is now the standard car material for engine blocks in virtually every car made.

\"make Up\"

Petrochemical engineering is the source of most car materials for the interiors of modern cars. They represent a triumph over nature as they are water-resistant, preventing the growth of mold and mildew. Polyvinyl chlorides, polypropylene ultra-fine fibers and other synthetic materials make up the car's interior from the dashboard cover to the floor mats. Some manufacturers are using natural fibers such as hemp for lining and cushioning the headliner (where the sun visors are attached). A large part of the car's interior is now lined with sound-absorbing cushions of polypropylene.

What Metals and Other Materials Make Up Cars?

Think the car material in your tires is pure rubber? Think again. The latex in rubber degrades quickly in humid conditions, even after the vulcanization process which makes rubber firmer. Now a composite of synthetic fibers, steel fiber belts for improved traction, and rubber are used to make car tires.

The number one car material for the wheels used to be cast iron. Then steel was used, as it rusted much more slowly. Now the preferred car material for wheels is cast aluminum, which is good at resisting moisture and is much lighter in weight than cast iron or steel.

A recent technological breakthrough in Britain is helping produce car materials to make "shape memory" fasteners that will retain their shape and release from the car body at a certain temperature. This will allow the cars to be disassembled and recycled very effectively. These car materials include polymers, plastics and metal alloys.

For the present, the car materials used in the world's most expensive sports cars will include natural fibers such as leather for upholstery, and chromium for window and bumper trim. But the trends towards light weight, recyclability and low cost will encourage manufacturers to create new and useful car materials for the inexpensive, fuel-efficient and more earth-friendly cars the rest of us will drive daily in the foreseeable future.

Oily Skin Care Tips - Get Rid Of Those Pimples And Greasy Spots On Your Face Forever

Oily skin is not a disease, its just a skin texture that makes you uncomfortable from which you want to get rid of. Due to lack of proper guidance and information on oily skin care available, it has turned into one of the major skin problems resulting into pimples, acne, blackheads and many more.

Several factors are said to be responsible for the aggravation of an oily skin:

\"make Up\"

CAUSES OF AN OILY SKIN

Oily Skin Care Tips - Get Rid Of Those Pimples And Greasy Spots On Your Face Forever

1. Heredity is quite responsible for an oily skin, but so do hormones. Pregnant women sometimes notice an increase in skin oil with the changes in hormonal activity. So do women going for birth control pills.

2. Stress can also lead in the overdrive of the oil glands.

3. The wrong cosmetics can easily aggravate an otherwise mild case of oily skin.

Some of these causes are within your ability to control, but others you will have to learn to live with.

In most of the cases, oily skin can be treated at home. But sometimes, the situation demands more than just a home remedy. You need to call for a doctor if you develop sever acne or notice notice any sudden change in your skin. Otherwise, go for these tips and try them at home:

TIPS ON OILY SKIN CARE

1. Keep your skin absolutely clean - You might be quite aware of the fact, that oilier the skin, the dirtier it looks and feels. And to get rid of this, keep your skin clean by washing it at least twice a day.

Generally, some doctors recommend you to use detergent-type soaps on your face. As a substitute to it, you can add 1-2 drops of dish washing detergent to your regular soap.

While some doctors condemn the use of detergent-type soaps as they are too harsh for your oily facial skin. Instead they recommend glycerin soaps to be used to clean your face twice a day.

If using a detergent soap irritates your facial skin then try the glycerin soap, easily available over the counter.

2. Give Aloe-Vera a Try - This wonder plant of the household is the best at absorbing skin oils. Slice open a leaf and smear the gel on your face 3 times a day. Let it dry. Or you can also keep a small amount of gel in the refrigerator during the summers for a refreshing face-lift.

3. Wipe with Astringents - Wipe the oily spots on your face by rubbing alcohol or a combination of alcohol and acetone that helps degrease your oily skin. Many drugstores even sell pre-moistened, individually wrapped alcohol wipes that are really portable, you can carry them in your purse for quick touch-ups all day long.

4. Carry Tissue papers with you - Paper facial tissues are the best substitute of astringents as they help soak up excess oils in a pinch. Get those special oil-absorbing tissues from a cosmetic counter that are very in removing excessive oils between cleansings.

5. Rinse your face with cold water - Simply splashing your face with cold water and blotting it dry a couple of times a day is equivalent to applying chemicals to your skin. These cold water rinses remove excessive oils from your face.

6. Say NO to moisturizers - Do not ever go after those tempting advertisements compelling you to buy facial moisturizers for oily skin. These are the fatal temptations taking you to disastrous skin. Instead apply a sunscreen on your face before facing the sun or going outdoors. And yes, do not forget to check the labels for products especially designed for oily skin.

7. Make your own scrub - Make a paste of a small amount of ground almonds with honey and apply as a facial scrub for removing oils and dead skin cells. Now gently massage this paste on your face with a hot washcloth. Finally, rinse with cold water.

Another scrub from oatmeal mixed with aloe vera can prove to be very beneficial for you. Rub gently on your skin and leave on for 15 minutes, Then rinse thoroughly. And if suffering from acne on your face, then you should probably skip the scrub, as it can aggravate your already-irritated skin.

8. Apply Masques on your oily face - Masques prove to be very beneficial in reducing the oiliness. Either Clay masques or you can mix Fuller's Earth (easily available) with a little water and make a paste. Apply this paste to the face and leave on for about 20 minutes and then rinse off.

9. Go for water-based cosmetics only - Try to make your skin breathe by living without make-up, especially foundation. Using make-up or foundation that are oil-based blocks the pores of your skin thereby resulting in blemishes. And if necessary, then use water-based make-up only, especially spot concealers rather than coating your entire face. In general, prefer stick with powder or gel blushers, and avoid cream foundations as much as possible.

10. Tie up your hair properly - Keep your hair away from your face as oily hair accompanies an oily skin.

11. Do not touch your facial skin - Avoid touching your face throughout the day as your hands deliver excessive oils and dirt.

12. Choose a powder for you - For that extra shine-free protection, use simple products for your oily face such as Johnsons Baby Powder. This makes a superb face powder when fluffed lightly over your makeup.

13. Splash on the hot suds - Hot water is a great solvent. So, warm water should be used to wash an oily face and that with plenty of soap. Hot water plus soap dissolves skin oil better than cold water and soap.

So, what say now! You are just a few clicks away from getting a new fresh and non-oily skin! Go ahead and check out for the home remedies for oily skin care at my health blog.
